PINKLE TOES PHOTOGRAPHY: Summer Buggin’ ♥ Austin Kids’ Photographer

I have bugs in my freezer.

Yes.

They’re not my bugs.

They belong to my boys.

They’re for collection and identification purposes.

Or so I’m told.

I don’t like having bugs in my freezer.

I do, however, like that pretty much every day this summer, the boys get up at the crack of dawn, hit the Jeep, and spend all day outside with their butterfly nets and containers trying to find the coolest bugs to study. I’m serious. They do it all day. Every day.

Knowing this new bug obsession, my mom was kind enough to get us tickets to the butterfly exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Absolutely incredible. The butterflies were stunning, the bugs were plenty, and I swear, I could have stayed all day and watched the butterflies hatching. I had NO idea how colorful and intricate the chrysalises were (above pic).

Welcome to the Anderson Homeschool, folks. I guess this is my life for the next decade or so:

This little fella here is Fred. They carried him around like a pet bird all day. I guess it could be worse. ;-)

This post is precisely why I hope I have girls if I ever have children! I would be freaking out. (Although your boys’ cuteness sure does make up for the yucky bugs!)

Wow, that’s awesome. My girls love bugs. I do wish we had more variety around here so that we could hunt bugs from sun up to sun down.

wow…that’s awesome!!! …i have a healthy fear of bugs… but sooooo glad that my daughter doesn’t …she’s an aspiring bug collector too… named her last ant she collected …Carmichael… what kid thinks of these things??

Perfect capture of a stage of their youth! I want to go to the butterfly museum!

I also have two boys that will sit and feed a potato chip, crumb by crumb to ants just to watch them work. Luckily for them, I am a reptile and small animal girl, we handle more snakes, lizards, turtles, worms and salamanders here then my hubby or my daughter would like :). I will admit Fred freaks me out a bit…cool at a distance…but a tad freaky to hold!

Oh my! Wonderful ages. I love the ages where they are SO eager to learn!! (As a mother of teens, I MISS those ages!!! We are now in the “That’s boring” phase of adolescence…ugh!) Great captures, michele. So what kind of bug is Fred exactly?

On the same note, I found my 10 month old eating a hard-shelled bug the other day. When I fished it out of his mouth, I was pretty sure it was supposed to have wings. sigh…
